Obsolescence of TA100Pro Parallel Polling Key
Time America recently announced the release of TA100 PRO Version 4.03a. Included with this release came notification that Version 4.03a and future releases will not support the parallel port security/polling key required to operate the software. Those using the USB “thumb key” are not affected. This means, if you are using a parallel key and upgrade your software to this new or future versions, your software will no longer function.

Should I upgrade?

Keystone Payroll strongly recommends that if you have a parallel key you upgrade to the USB key since the TA100Pro software keeps evolving, adding more functionality and features, service packs and support for new or changes to current operating systems. Additionally, most new computer systems no longer come standard with a parallel port requiring a special order or after market card to be purchased/installed.

What happens if I don’t upgrade now?

Time America is supporting a conversion/upgrade offer special through May 31, 2010 (must be initiated by May 21, 2010). After that date you will be required to purchase a new software/key package with no discount. The special is $85.00 with the return of the old parallel key. A new TA100Pro/USB key package is several hundred dollars. Clients who currently have an annual software support contract get the upgrade for free if completed by May 31,2010.

Clients who currently do not have the annual software support contract but purchase before May 21, 2010 will get the upgrade for free.

What if I have a software support contract?

If you currently have a software support contract with Keystone Payroll, there is no charge for the upgrade providing that it is initiated prior to May 21, 2010. After May 31, 2010 an upgrade requires the purchase of new TA100Pro software and USB key and is not supported by Keystone.

How do I know what type of security/polling key that I have?

The parallel key is a device that plugs into the parallel port at the rear of your computer or server depending on your installation configuration. The USB key looks like a USB thumb drive with a green light at the tip. If unsure, consult with your IT department or contact Keystone Payroll or Click here..

How do I know what version of software I currently have?

The TA100Pro software version can be obtained by logging into your TA100Pro software and selecting menu item Help/About. Note, software upgrades are free and the latest versions can be downloaded from Keystone Payroll’s website.

What if I don’t have the most current version of TA100Pro?

The latest version of TA100Pro software can be downloaded from Keystone Payroll’s website.

How do I determine the serial number of my security/polling key?

The serial number of the security key can be obtained by logging into the TA100Pro software and selecting menu item Help/About.

What about TA50XL and TA50Pro?

TA50XL and TA50Pro are obsolete products having been discontinued for several years. While they still work with PC and Window versions up to XP, there is no/limited support with Windows Vista and Windows 7. TA50Pro only has a parallel port hardware security/polling key while TA50XL does not have a hardware security/polling key. When upgrading to a new PC, keep in mind that most do not come with a parallel port standard and must be special ordered or purchased after market.
There is no upgrade process to go from TA50XL/TA50Pro to TA100Pro other than buying new. TA50XL will also require the purchase of a new clock while TA50Pro is compatible with existing clocks. Data from the TA50XL/TA50Pro is easily transferred to TA100Pro.

What about my current clocks?

There are no changes or upgrades for the clocks due to the upgrade, they will work with the new USB security/polling key just like the parallel port key. There are currently no end-of-life issues with any clocks other than TA50XL swipe clocks. There are several new versions of clocks available including biometric hand readers, finger print readers and replacement designs for the TA520 and TA620 clocks.

What if I have or want to use a MAC?

TA100Pro software is designed for PC/Windows only.

How do I obtain information about software support contracts?

The software support contract covers:

  • Semi-annual:
    • Software updates.
    • Database defragmentation
  • Free use of loaner clock if available.
  • Unlimited remote software support.
